GDCTA Dressage Scholarship Program

MISSION

The mission of the GDCTA scholarship program is to provide an educational experience to expand the knowledge and abilities of the committed, talented, and motivated GDCTA members. These individuals must show a serious commitment to the study if dressage as well as a willingness to share and enrich the GDCTA membership with the improved understanding and skills gained from the experience. This scholarship represents an investment by GDCTA. The recipient understands that the membership will benefit as a result of the recipient’s experience.

2008 PROGRAM UPDATE
In years past, GDCTA offered this scholarship exclusively with the Etoile International Equestrian Academy. In 2007, Etoile closed its doors so we have used this opportunity to reflect on how best to improve the GDCTA Scholarship Program. After much debate, it was decided that GDCTA is committed to this unique and very exciting international program because the European experience is so steeped in tradition, culture, old institutions, competitions and horses in a concentrated area.

GDCTA will offer a number of excellent programs, including some for eventers. Check the website for current program listings.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Eligible member requests application or downloads from the website.
  • Completed application packet must be received by the deadline. It can be mailed or hand delivered. 2008 Deadline: Open: Feb 1, 2008-Close: September 30, 2008.
  • A complete application packet includes the application form, 5-10 minute videotape/dvd demonstrating the rider’s current riding skills, and a $50 non-refundable application fee. If the application is not complete by the due date, it will not be considered and will be returned to the applicant. The applicant can re-apply for consideration at a future date.
  • Completed, eligible applications will be forwarded to an impartial trainer outside of Region 3 for selection. The selection method is designed to promote integrity, fairness, and impartiality in the selection of a recipient.
  • The scholarship recipient will receive a letter of agreement to be signed, including
o Timeframe for use of money
    o Expected contributions to GDCTA

If for some reason the program is not completed, the funds will be returned to the scholarship program.
